Former U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera Unveils Second Book Inspired by Hospital Patients

MADERA, Calif. – Nationally recognized poet Juan Felipe Herrera, Valley Children’s Healthcare and Fresno Unified celebrated a new chapter as Mr. Herrera unveiled his new book, “I Am the Future,” at the elementary school named in his honor. This is the second book inspired by children cared for at Valley Children’s Hospital, with artwork by Mexican illustrator and author Renata Galindo.

After the reading, Mr. Herrera distributed a copy of the book to every student. The books were donated by Valley Children’s Literacy Program – George’s Book Club – and the Guilds Center for Community Health. The book will is available for purchase in the Gift Shop of Valley Children’s Hospital, along with local shops including Petunia’s Place Children’s Bookstore and the Holiday Boutique in Fresno. Proceeds benefit patient services and programs at Valley Children’s.
