MADERA, Calif. – For patients at Valley Children’s Hospital, a routine day turned extraordinary when Washington Wizards guard AJ Johnson walked through the doors.
Johnson, 20, is a rising star in his second year in the NBA. Born and raised in Fresno, the former five-star recruit returned to his roots with a mission to uplift local youth, stopping by Valley Children’s Hospital to inspire and share encouragement.
During his visit, Johnson signed autographs, posed for photos and offered personal messages of support to patients and their families. His presence sparked excitement throughout the hospital, bringing smiles to children, staff and families alike.
“Having AJ come visit us was such a nice gesture. I love seeing community leaders give back,” said Elizabeth Whiteman, whose daughter got to visit and chat with Johnson.
Johnson attended San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno before transferring. He was drafted 23rd overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024 and was traded to the Wizards earlier this year, averaging 9.1 points, 3.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game.
Following his visit to the hospital, Johnson hosted a backpack giveaway at Dave & Buster’s in Fresno for local youth.
