MADERA, Calif. – A fundraiser at Valley Children’s Hospital brought the community together to support pediatric cancer research, with participants cutting or shaving their hair to raise awareness and donations.
The annual “Conquer Kids’ Cancer” fundraiser was organized by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and held at Valley Children’s earlier this month. Nine people either cut their hair or shaved their heads at the event.
One of the participants, Andrew, said he chose to shave his head because he thought it was a great way to raise awareness and show support for children who are fighting cancer.

“Hair doesn’t define who you are; beauty comes from within,” Andrew said.
The event raised more than $1,900, all of which will support pediatric cancer research.
Founded in 1999, St. Baldrick’s is the largest charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants in the United States. Driven by thousands of volunteers and donors, the nonprofit raises money to support the most promising childhood cancer research initiatives.

In addition to raising funds that support research funding and training of researchers, the organization also provides hospitals with grants to open high-impact clinical trials.
