MADERA, Calif. –Valley Children’s welcomed the Fresno State Women’s Basketball team on Wednesday, bringing Bulldog pride, encouragement and connection to patients and families throughout the hospital.
More than a dozen student-athletes visited patient units, spending time in bedside conversations and connecting with patients and their families.
The team also joined patients for a round of Bingo, participating both in person and virtually with patients in hospital units. Several student-athletes helped call the games, creating an engaging experience for participants throughout the hospital.
The visit is part of Valley Children’s longstanding partnership with Fresno State and reflects a shared commitment to supporting the community. For patients and families, visits from student-athletes can provide a welcome distraction and a source of encouragement during a hospital stay.
For the players, the experience offered an opportunity to connect with young patients and give back to the community.
“When we’re able to bring a smile to the kids’ faces, it does the same in reverse for us as well,” said Kenzie Sirowich, a forward and senior on the team.
Sirowich said the visit also served as a reminder of the impact small acts of kindness can have.
“I think it puts things in perspective for us. To be able to brighten up any kids’ day, whether they’re at a hospital or not, it means the world to us,” Sirowich added.
